Solidarity & Beyond
As a smaller, alternate look at the original Polska Drop, Polska Slip, by Los Angeles artist Brian Drake is the second and final thought on Poland and the end of Communist rule. Artist Brian Drake mimics the scale and aspect ratio of paper currency and lIke paper currency, this piece reads in any position. This allows for flexible display possibilites, in both horizontal and vertical format.
The tail end of communist rule in Poland becomes threadbare with the rising popularity of the Solidarity movement. Glasnost and Perestroika have failed to reform in meaningful ways and the workers have united. Living on a constant diet of repression and reform, 40 years of Soviet backed governance took its toll and saw Poland become the tipping point to the collapse of communism in central/eastern Europe. This piece represents the end of highly manipulated currency backed by Soviet doctrine and failed economic policy. 30x48
