BOY & BEAR

50x50x2 Oil, wax and bank note on panel.

Artist: Brian Drake
Date: Spring 2021
Series: Broken Banknote

NOTES & DETAILS

In this effort, Broken Banknote manipulates a beloved icon of the 1980 Soviet Olympic games. on top of over painted 1970’s Soviet backed Afghan currency, some of which are circulated counterfeit bills. There is also a mashup of US $1.00 bills and a rather on the nose interpretation of US policy represented, in the blindfolded George Washington.

Feeling like this piece was not quite “right”, after a lease return from a corporate client, Brian Drake decided to reappropriate and re visualize this in a new and less didactic way. The new overpaint will be forth coming and the @brokenbanknote Instagram page does features work in progress videos. For now: See what can never be seen again.
