NOTES & DETAILS
Broken Banknote reinterprets figures from Venezuelan currency, critically examining the impact of economic embargoes, monetary policy, and currency manipulation. By deconstructing financial iconography, the work invites the viewer to consider the unintended consequences of U.S. intervention and the ways in which policy decisions have shaped Venezuela’s recent economic and political realities. Through layered imagery and material transformation, the piece challenges perceptions of value, sovereignty, and the far-reaching effects of financial control as a tool of geopolitical influence.
This is the first true Broken Banknote piece to be on panel and represent the series direction and aesthetic. It remains in the artist's personal collection.
